About Bernina Express

The Bernina Express is a panoramic train that takes you from Switzerland's canton of Graubunden, all the way from the town of Chur to Tirano in Italy linking regions with different languages and cultures. This route takes you through the UNESCO World Heritage site of Rhaetian Railway, with a view glaciers on its way down to palm trees. With the modern panoramic cars, travellers can enjoy unrestricted views of the unspoilt Alpine panorama. Further, in summer, the journey can be extended from Tirano to Lugano in Switzerland aboard the Bernina Express Bus with a view of wonderful scenery all the way passing through the vineyards and along the shores of Lake Como. It is easily recognisable as it is the same colour as the red train Bernina Express.

Travelling by the Bernina Express is one of the most spectacular ways to cross the Alps as it blends ideally with the alpine landscapes around the Albula and Bernina Passes. enroute to Italy from Switzerland it rolls over the 65- metre-high Landwasser Viaduct which is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the signature structure of the Rhaetian Railway. From Chur to Tirano, altogether the train passes through 196 bridges and 55 tunnels making the entire journey one of the most spectacular one. During this journey travellers get to explore the marvellous sites, like the Montebello curve with a view of the Bernina massif, the Morteratsch glacier, the Alp Grum, three lakes Lej Pitschen, Lej Nair and Lago Bianco, and the Brusio Circular Viaduct.
